Nous sommes arrivés lundi à Wallis. Quinze heures plus tôt,
nous avons enfin reçu une réponse d’un missionnaire sur place – nous sommes
attendus et ils se réjouissent de nous voir ! Ouf, merci Seigneur… nous
nous apprêtions à chercher un hôtel et à demander à Dieu que faire jour après
jour… Finalement, nous logeons tous dans une villa, nous avons une voiture de
location… L’île est très catholique, mais du style superstitieux. Sinon, deux
églises évangéliques et une église adventiste pour une île d’environ 7000
habitants francophones.
Sur l’île, les soins médicaux et médicaments sont gratuits.
Joële a consulté suite a des problèmes gastriques qui durent depuis la
Papouasie. L’église qui nous accueille (Assemblée de Dieu) compte une
quarantaine de membres.
Benoît et Fanny nous ont quitté et nous avons été rejoints
par la famille Cuendet pour 3 mois et par Joe Portale pour une semaine. Nous
avons un programme pour la semaine, avec des enseignements dans l’église, un
séminaire sur la famille, une visite de l’île avec intercession dans des lieux
stratégiques, une visite dans la prison, du travail dans le champ d’ananas de
l’église, des agapes… Pour la semaine prochaine, on verra…
Le pasteur et son épouse sont très ouverts. Elle est une
ancienne FJ de Nouvelle-Calédonie (tout comme sa voisine, le monde est petit)
et est enchantée que nous soyons là. Ils ont une fille de 15 ans qui passe
beaucoup de temps avec nous, et deux autres enfants plus jeunes.
Il fait très chaud, nous avons acheté un ventilateur pour
arriver à dormir. Pas de plage de sable sur l’île, il faut louer un bateau pour
nous rendre sur les ilôts au large. Nous ferons certainement cela la semaine
prochaine.
Au niveau magasins, Super U, Carrefour, Intermarché… On est
en pays connu. Par contre, il n’y a qu’un bateau qui les ravitaille par mois,
donc pour l’instant les étalages sont un peu vides…
We arrived last Monday in Wallis. Fifteen hours before, we
finally received a response from alocal missionary – we are expected and they
are looking forward to see us ! Praise the Lord… we were ready to come,
find a hotel and to ask God what to do day after day… Finally, we are hosted in
a villa, we have a rented car… The island is very catholic, but the
superstitious style. Otherwise, there are two evangelical churches and one
adventist church for an island with 7000 french speaking inhabitants.
On the island, the medical care and medics are free. Joële
went to the dispensary after some gastric problems from PNG. The Church
welcoming us (Assembly of God) has about 40 members.
Benoît and Fanny left us and we were joined by the Cuendet
family for three months plus Joe Portale for one week. We have a program for
the week, with teachings in the church, a seminar about family, a tour of the
island with intercession in strategic places, a visit in prison, some work in a
pinapple field, loves fest… For next week, we will see…
The pastor and his wife are very open. She is a former
King’s Kids from New Caledonia (as well as her neighbour, the world is small)
and is so happy that we are here. They have a 15 years old daughter who spend
much time with us, and two other younger kids.
The wheather is hot, we bought an electric fan to be able to
sleep. No sand beach on the island ; for this we need to rent a boat to go
to one of the small islands on the coral reef. We will certainly do this next
week.
Speaking about shops, we have Super U, Carrefour,
Intermarché… We are in known territory. However, there is only one boat
supplying them once a month, so for the moment they are a bit empty.
