Aujourd'hui, journée plus calme à Cuzco. Nous avons pris un Uber pour nous rendre à Tambomachay une ruine Inca proche de la ville, puis nous sommes rentrés à pied en visitant trois autres sites : Puca Pucara, Qenqo, et surtout Sacsayhuamán, le plus étendu et le plus impressionnant. En tout, une douzaine de kilomètres à pied, un temps magnifique, une pause lecture couchés dans l'herbe, une fin au Strabucks... Que demande le peuple!

Today was a quieter day in Cusco. We took an Uber to Tambomachay, an Inca ruin near the city, then walked back, stopping to visit three other sites along the way: Puca Pucara, Qenqo, and, most notably, Sacsayhuamán, the largest and most impressive of them all. All in all, about a dozen kilometers on foot, beautiful weather, a reading break lying in the grass, and we ended the day at Starbucks… What more could you ask for!

Aujourd'hui, c'était la visite de Machu Picchu, la ville cachée des Incas jamais par les Espagnols et redécouverte au début du 20ème siècle. Un paysage majestueux, des merveilles d'ingéniérie, c'était une visite fascinante pendant laquelle notre guide nous a donné plein d'explications passionnantes. On a encore des images plein les yeux! Puis retour à Cuzco en train et en voiture, nous sommes arrivés en début de soirée pour trouver la Plaza de Armas, à 250m de notre hôtel, fermée et envahie par des milliers de personnes pour suivre un match de la Copa America devant la cathédrale sur grand écran. On prévoit les boules Quiès ce soir!

Today, we visited Machu Picchu, the hidden city of the Incas that was never discovered by the Spanish and was rediscovered in the early 20th century. With its majestic scenery and marvels of engineering, it was a fascinating tour during which our guide shared lots of exciting insights. We’re still in awe of the sights! Then we returned to Cusco by train and car, arriving in the early evening to find the Plaza de Armas—just 250 meters from our hotel—closed off and swarming with thousands of people gathered to watch a Copa América match on a big screen in front of the cathedral. We’ll be needing earplugs tonight!

Aujourd'hui, voyage depuis Cuzco à Aguas Calientes, le village en dessous de Machu Picchu. 6h de bus qui nous ont fait passer par un col à 4300m de la cordillière des Andes dans des paysages magnifiques, puis marche de 3h le long de la rivière et de la voie ferrée. On se réjouit déjà de découvrir ce site majestueux demain matin (jeudi)!

Today, we traveled from Cusco to Aguas Calientes, the village below Machu Picchu. It was a 6-hour bus ride that took us over a 4,300-meter-high pass in the Andes Mountains through breathtaking scenery, followed by a 3-hour hike along the river and the railroad tracks. We’re already looking forward to exploring this majestic site tomorrow morning (Thursday)!

Après notre rencontre en Colombie, nous profitons d'être déjà en Amérique du Sud pour prendre quelques jours de vacances en couple au Pérou, un rêve de longue date. Nous sommes arrivés mardi matin à Cuzco, nous sommes baladés dans la vieille ville. Demain et après-demain, nous irons voir Machu Picchu. Nous sommes à 3500m d'altitude, donc nous marchons plus lentement, mais le lieu est fascinant dans cette vieille ville chargée d'histoire. Et le climat... retour en hiver, avec 2°C au réveil, et ça monte à 15-16°C en journée. Aujourd'hui, il pleuvait, nous espérons que demain le temps va s'améliorer!

After meeting up in Colombia, we’re taking advantage of already being in South America to spend a few days on a romantic getaway in Peru—a long-held dream. We arrived in Cusco on Tuesday morning and strolled through the old town. Tomorrow and the day after, we’ll go see Machu Picchu. We’re at an altitude of 3,500 meters, so we’re walking more slowly, but this historic old town is truly fascinating. And the weather... winter is back, with 2°C when we woke up, rising to 15–16°C during the day. It was raining today; we're hoping the weather will improve tomorrow!
